Honey, Where are You? Check My Gmail Signature, Please!

Gmail Labs has been really busy lately, announcing two new test features in the last week. They announced yet another addition to Labs on Wednesday, the ability to add your location to your email signature.
In our crazy “where the heck are you” world, this is just another example of adding location-based functionality to another service. To enable it, go into Settings, then Labs, and enable “Location in Signature.” Then return to settings and check “Append your location to the signature.”
For those using the “Offline” feature, you will get a warning that since you are in that mode it may take some time for the changes to take effect. What that means (and it happened to me) is that the checkbox may not appear in your Settings immediately.
In my case, Firefox also crashed, but that may – or may not – be related.
The feature uses IP-based location, so Google says that if you want more accuracy, you should install the latest version of Gears (or at least one that supports the location module).
A commenter at VentureBeat pointed out that it might have been a good idea to release a mobile app that might tie in location-based services to … oh wait, that’s Latitude. Probably they were two separate groups and the features might be melded together later.
