Apple Releases iPhone 2.0.1 Software Update

249.2 MB — that’s the size of the first update to the iPhone 2.0 software. Starting Monday afternoon users first started getting notified via iTunes of the update. iPod Touches and first-generation iPhones running the 2.0 software can update as well.

Obviously this update isn’t going to have any effect on the case cracks some are seeing, but perhaps it will resolve the issues with GPS and 3G network connectivity many are seeing.

Typical of Apple, there’s not much detail in terms of the changes. Searching around the Internet seems to indicate that some performance improvements have been made. Overall, things seem snappier.

At least one person has reported losing wi-fi access after the 2.0.1 upgrade, but at this point the report does not seem widespread. Another user said his iPhone was bricked after the update, but once again, no other reports in the thread.

Fortunately for me, no issues with the wi-fi, and things seem fine (for now).

Unfortunately, with these types of upgrades, there are bound to be issues with (hopefully) a minority of users (PS3 users can attest to this).
